DDT is still here in the U.S.

DDT has been illegal in the USA and Canada for the last 25+ years. However, the law neglected to make it illegal to make DDT. The USA is its chief manufacturer and we sell it to nearly every country in the world. We then purchase fruits and vegetables from countries where it is perfectly legal to spray it, hmmmmm..... Another study found that 90 of 362 homes tested positive for DDT indoors.

Something to ponder.

Except that DDT isn't actually that bad, it just became politically bad.

Thanks Matt, that's an excellent page about DDT and why it is NOT a problem.

Everyone should read that.

I've read some of this information before, but I also see a lack of any of the biochemical information about organochlodides which led to the banning of organochlorides, such as DDT. The last section looks like an amusing smoke screen. The point seems to be that it was all those other organochlorides and not DDT that were in the "smoking guns" tests? That looks more like deflection.

Now, I'm not saying, DDT is bad or good. Let me repeat for those who may presume to define my position for me. I am not saying, DDT is bad or good. I am commenting on this document and the possible agenda of the author. I am saying this document doesn't look any more balanced than others I've read on this subject. It looks to be a context filter for the author--which isn't surprising as that's all any article or writing can ever hope to be. I don't see debunking, but I do see some good balancing to help add a filter to the other information and "reports" available.

I'm no fan of pesticides myself, but have also seen a lot of "junk science" on the subject too.

junkscience.com seems to tackle some of this discussion with a fairly pragmatic view.

One interesting aspect is the use of DDT and some other "questionnable" chemicals to abate malaria carrying mosquitoes. Malaria is a huge problem that will get worse if those countries are not able to purchase pesticides.
